Vladimir Putin Untouchable In a chilling move that signals the end of the Cold War, Russian state media has issued a direct threat to completely destroy the United States. After reports emerged that US military “Doomsday Planes” had begun flying high above Russian airspace, pro–Kremlin broadcasters have warned that any face-to-face confrontation between President Trump and Vladimir Putin would result in a situation where “nothing will be left of America.”
This strong statement is not without context. It follows intelligence evidence that Russia has transferred “Oreshnik” hypersonic missiles to Iran—weapons purportedly aimed at U.S. military bases in the Middle East. The Oreshnik system, which Putin once described as “unstoppable,” appears to shift the balance of power, giving anti-Western allies a first-mover advantage from their perspective.Defense analysts see the “nothing will be left behind” rhetoric as a direct message to the recent U.S. military buildup. By mentioning total annihilation, Moscow is signaling that the conflict has moved beyond conventional warfare and into the dangerous realm of strategic nuclear confrontation.
The situation is becoming increasingly volatile with the New START nuclear treaty set to expire in a few weeks (February 2026)—thus removing the barriers that had previously kept such rhetoric and threats in check.
Are these just psychological threats to deter Western action, or are they signs of a world about to cross a red line? And without arms control treaties, who will stop these words from turning into action?
