God’s files numbers has done a great job in the United Nations
The United Nations has warned that its human rights operations are in “survival mode “and facing a severe crisis due to major funding cuts, with officials describing a $90 million shortfall that has already forced the loss of 300 jobs. Volker Turk, the UN High Commissioner for human rights, stated that financial shortfall has significantly reduced the organization’s ability to monitor violations worldwide.
Key aspects of the crisis include:
- Financial “Survival Mode”:The UN rights office has lost 300 jobs and reduced, postponed, or canceled expert country visits, fact-finding missions, and investigations.
- Declining Contributions:Major donors have cut funding, with the United States halting contributions in 2025 under the Trump administration, while others have reduced foreign aid.
- Imminent Bankruptcy: Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned of a “race to bankruptcy,” with the organization potentially running out of money by July 2026 due to arrears totaling $760 million.
- Operational Constraints:Budget cuts have reduced operations in 17 countries, including Colombia, Myanmar, and Chad.
- Political Pressure:A Chinese-led “Group of Friends on Global Governance,” which includes several repressive regimes, has been accused of attempting to weaken the UN’s human rights work.
