{"id":7375,"date":"2018-01-27T12:29:59","date_gmt":"2018-01-27T12:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/egretnews.com\/?p=7375"},"modified":"2018-01-27T12:30:37","modified_gmt":"2018-01-27T12:30:37","slug":"kagame-trump-talk-u-s-africa-relations-at-davos-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/egretnews.com\/index.php\/2018\/01\/27\/kagame-trump-talk-u-s-africa-relations-at-davos-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Kagame, Trump Talk U.S \u2013 Africa Relations at Davos Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">U.S President Donald Trump today met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Davos and discussed issues of interest to the African Union as a whole, including peace, security and counter-terrorism.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Trump met Kagame as Chairman of the African Union (AU) on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum summit in Davos, Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cHad very good bilateral meeting with Donald Trump and also agreed to the importance of US \u2013 Africa relations and cooperation,\u201d President Kagame said on twitter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Kagame and President Trump reviewed bilateral relations, discussed Africa trade, and African Union reforms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">President Kagame observed that many of the world\u2019s fastest-growing economies are in Africa, and commended President Trump for the United States\u2019 attention to the importance of economic development on the continent, according to a statement by Rwanda government.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe two leaders reaffirmed the pre-eminence of mutual understanding and agreed to work together to identify further ways to enhance strategic partnerships,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today is the last day of the World Economic Forum which pools together global political leaders, business people and economists from around the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Other African leaders present include Somali Prime Minister, South Africa\u2019s Deputy President and Zimbabwe\u2019s new leader Emmerson Mnangagwa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Trump\u2019s meeting with AU head comes amid criticism against Mr Trump who alleged described African countries as \u201cshitholes\u201d at a closed door meeting to discuss immigration policy \u2013 an allegation he denied.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The African Union has called on Trump to apologise for his \u201ccontemptuous remarks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But President Trump on Friday, ignored questions from reporters about the president\u2019s reference to nations on the continent as \u201cshithole countries\u201d in a closed-door meeting this month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Tuesday, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni said in speech that he \u201cloves\u201d for US President Donald Trump for his frankness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAmerica has got one of the best presidents ever,\u201d Mr Museveni said during the opening of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI love Trump because he tells Africans frankly.
