Luigi Brugnaro, the mayor of Venice, Italy, has ordered police in his city to open fire on anyone shouting \u2018Allahu Akbar,\u2019 a phrase often used by radical Islamic terrorists during attacks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Brugnaro claimed that such a proactive measure is what makes his city safer than that of Barcelona, Spain, which recently suffered a terror attack<\/a> that killed 14 people. In that horrific incident, Younes Abouyaaqoub used a van to plow into a crowd of innocent people. He was later killed by police while shouting \u201cAllahu Akbar.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn contrast with Barcelona, where they had not set up protection, we keep our guard up,\u201d the Venice mayor said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anyone runs into St Mark\u2019s Square shouting \u2018Allahu Akhbar\u2019, we will take him down.\u201d<\/p>\n

The right-wing mayor of Venice has courted controversy by claiming anyone who yells \u201cAllahu Akhbar\u201d in the city\u2019s St Mark\u2019s Square will be shot.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a conference, Luigi Brugnaro said Venice was safer than Barcelona, where 13 people were killed this month when terrorists drove a van down Las Ramblas.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn contrast with Barcelona, where they had not set up protection, we keep our guard up,\u201d he said. \u201cIf anyone runs into St Mark\u2019s Square shouting \u2018Allahu Akhbar\u2019, we will take him down. A year ago I said after four steps, now after three. I will say it in Venetian: \u2018Ghe Sparemo\u2019 (We will shoot him).\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Brugnaro went on to discuss a fairly recent plot by four jihadists to blow up the\u00a0Rialto bridge in March.<\/p>\n

Brugnaro hinted that under the new policy the Rialto Bridge plotters might not have been so lucky as to simply be arrested.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Venice, we arrested four terrorists who wanted to blow up the Rialto bridge, saying they wanted to go to Allah,\u201d he explained. \u201cBut we\u2019ll send them straight to Allah before they can do any damage.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Brugnaro spoke at the conference\u00a0Dario Nardella, mayor of Florence, approached the Venice mayor shouting \u2018Allahu Akhbar!\u2019 and laughing.<\/p>\n

Nardella later apologized on social media, saying \u201cIt was not my intention to offend anyone, not least the Muslim community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brugnaro went on to say that he\u2019s never been one for political correctness.<\/p>\n
