Police in Nairobi are holding a Guinean man who was arrested with 2.8 kilograms of cocaine at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Abdoulaye Diallo, 45, was arrested as he was waiting to board a plane to Benin.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cPolice discovered that he had hidden the drugs with a street value of Sh11.1 million in his private parts and so he was arrested,\u201d the head of Anti-Narcotic Police Unit, Hamisi\u00a0Masa, told Nation.co.ke on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The officers, he said, suspected the accused had the drugs in his body on Thursday evening and put him under observation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After a few hours, he emitted the cocaine, which was wrapped in polythene bags.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

\u201cWe will take him to court on Monday to answer to charges of being in possession of drugs,\u201d Mr Masa said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

He said the man was travelling from Doha, Qatar, but it is not yet clear whether the drugs originated in that Arab country.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Several people have been arrested at Nairobi’s biggest airport in the recent past for trafficking in drugs.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mr Masa said police are aware of the new tactics being used by drug traffickers, adding that the Anti-Narcotics Unit was alert.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Recently, traffickers have opted to use roads after police intensified surveillance at sea ports and airports.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Last year alone, drugs estimated to be worth more than Sh50 million were seized at Jomo Kenyatta airport.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Two weeks ago, a Congolese national was arrested at the airport for carrying 10 rolls of bhang valued at Sh30,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The 40-year-old woman, who was heading to Dubai, was arrested at a police checkpoint after she showed signs of difficulty in walking.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

She had hidden the narcotic in her private parts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Two weeks earlier, a Nigerian national was arrested at the same airport with narcotics suspected to be cocaine.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The man was travelling to Nigeria from Sao Paolo, Brazil, when he was arrested.<\/p>\n
